Gloire au travail !

J’ai été ce week-end à Arles où se tiennent les Rencontres d’Arles, un des hauts lieux de la photographie en Europe avec plus de 50 expositions à travers dans la ville, dans des musées, églises, ateliers…

Une parmi celles qui m’ont le plus marquées se tenait à la bourse du travail, local prêté par la CGT.

Il s’agit d’un photographie finlandais, Toumo Manninen.

Quelqes mots sur lui, extraits du site officiel du festival :

Tuomo Manninen fait des portraits de groupe depuis 1995. Les images qu’il conçoit se situent au croisement de la photographie documentaire et de la théâtralisation : ses sujets posent pour des compositions à la structure parfaite, conscients de leur contribution à l’immortalisation d’un moment. Ces personnes consentent à participer activement à l’acte d’être photographié. Leur pose devant l’appareil implique d’une part leur prise de conscience et leur acceptation de la hiérarchie, d’autre part leur désir de voir ce moment consigné. Ni les photographies de Tuomo Manninen, ni les individus photographiés ne se posent en critique de cette attitude ou de cette réalité. Au contraire, l’expression sur les visages évoque la dignité des travailleurs, leur motivation ainsi que leur sens des responsabilités et leur détermination à s’acquitter de leurs tâches. Ces photographies laissent entrevoir comment le groupe façonne et recrée l’identité de chaque membre tout en gommant les caractéristiques individuelles de chacun. La méthode artistique adoptée par le photographe accentue cette tension propre au groupe entre le Moi et le Nous. En effet, il positionne les sujets parmi les objets et les lieux qui les constituent en groupe. Un positionnement chorégraphié des personnes et un éclairage très étudié créent l’illusion d’un décor dans lequel les personnages nous livrent des scènes de leur vie. Un décor que ces personnes quitteront tôt ou tard pour participer à d’autres activités qui les lient à d’autres groupes, d’autres communautés. Ce faisant, Tuomo Manninen tente de montrer que, malgré sa portée, l’appartenance à tel ou tel groupe ne saurait définir fondamentalement un être humain : le Nous de tout groupe passera toujours sous silence une partie du Moi.

Il n’y a pas grand-chose à dire de plus quand vous aurez lu ce texte que de voir les photos. C’est vraiment une réhabilitation du travail et de la dignité des personnes.
