Qu'est-ce que le personal branding ? Ce n'est rien de plus que capturer positivement l'attention de quelqu'un en créant une image inoubliable. Tout collaborateur a besoin de nourrir et de maintenir son positionnement personnel. Le positionnement personnel définit qui vous êtes dans l'organisation et ce que l'entreprise attend de vous. Le plus souvent, les personal branding sont donnés de manière involontaire, cependant un peu de réflexion et un bon plan d'action peuvent contribuer à bâtir votre propre "personal branding".

L'exemple d'Alfred

Connaissez-vous Alfred Nobel, celui du prix Nobel ? Connaissez-vous sa vraie histoire ? Alfred Nobel était un milliardaire suédois grâce à ses découvertes de la dynamite et du détonateur. Lorsque son frère mourut, le journal fit une confusion et raconta sa vie (et non celle son frère). Il découvrit alors qu'il était perçu comme un marchand de morts. C'est ce qui le décida à créer le prix eponyme. Aujourd'hui, son prix l'a rendu célèbre, mais pour d'autres raisons.

Un auteur, Carl Baid, a écrit : "Quoique personne ne peut faire marche arrière et tout recommencer, chacun peut partir de maintenant et écrire une nouvelle fin de l'histoire".

Comment construire son image ?

Le positionnement personnel est une image ou perception que les collaborateurs créent dans une organisation sur ce à quoi ils excellent ou un potentiel à développer. Tout comme dans le marketing classique, vous pouvez manager votre marque au travers d'études, de retours.

Bien entendu, cela doit tenir compte de vos forces et de vos faiblesses. Il est important que votre plan à moyen terme soit lié à vos forces. Il ne s'agit pas simplement d'un outil de plus pour progresser au sein de l'organisation. Il s'agit aussi de prendre conscience de ses forces et faiblesses et de créer un effet de levier en bâtissant votre image.

1. Loi de la spécialisation : Votre marque personnelle doit être pointue si elle se veut efficace. Vous devez communiquer sur un seul axe : une force, un talent ou une réalisation personnelle. On pourrait parler de cœur de métier. Celui qui sait tout faire … ne sait rien faire… Autrement dit, “Il vaut mieux exceller en une chose que d’être médiocre en plusieurs.” (Pline le Jeune).

2. Loi du leadership : votre marque personnelle ne doit pas seulement être connue. Elle doit surtout être reconnue par vos pairs et votre entourage (vos références professionnelles et sociales). C’est la dimension réputation de votre marque personnelle.

3. loi de la personnalité : votre marque personnelle doit être sincère et authentique. Elle montre que vous êtes bon et non que vous êtes parfait !

4. Loi de la distinction : si vous n’êtes pas différents, vous êtes comme tout le monde et vous resterez donc dans la masse. Vous devez montrer votre différence par rapport aux autres.

5. Loi de la visibilité : vous devez être plus visible que les autres. Plus votre cercle d’influence augmente, plus vous devenez crédible (réseaux sociaux, networking,…).

6. Loi de l'unité : il ne doit pas y avoir de décalage entre ce que vous dites et ce que vous faites, que ce soit dans la sphère publique ou privée. Dire ce qu’on fait et faire ce qu’on dit (principe de congruence).

7. Loi de la patience : une marque personnelle prend du temps pour s’établir, pour être connue. Il faut être patient.

8. Loi de la valeur : pour obtenir de meilleurs résultats, votre marque doit être associée à une valeur ou une idée universellement reconnue comme positive et intéressante.

On ne choisit pas d’avoir une marque personnelle. Tout le monde en a une : positive, neutre ou négative. Grâce ou à cause d’Internet selon le point de vue, elle deviendra tôt ou tard publique et accessible mondialement. Si vous ne définissez pas votre marque personnelle, ce sont les autres qui la définiront pour vous et il y a des risques qu’elle ne vous corresponde pas. Le Personal Branding peut se résumer ainsi : mieux vous connaître (auto-évaluation ou évaluation à 360° par votre entourage) afin de mieux vous faire connaître (à travers des méthodes et des outils - annuaires, réseaux sociaux, networking,…). Billet de très bon conseil et qui m'occupe ces derniers temps, cf. mes clips sur youtube. La première difficulté à résoudre est en effet d'apprendre à mieux se connaître soi-même pour se bâtir sa marque, celle qui convient le mieux à sa personne.
