Il y a des gens qui dès leur enfance ont connu succès sur succès, qui ont vécu dans un milieu aisé et douillet et qui sont parvenus à se frayer un chemin dans la vie sans trop de contraintes. Pour certains, c’est parfait (voire un rêve). Pour d’autres, cela peut être un sérieux handicap pour réussir comme entrepreneur, voire simplement trouver sa voie.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter (professeur à Harvard) a écrit récemment une étude autour du film « The social Network » qui relate la création de Facebook par Mark Zuckerberg. Elle estime que si Mark n’avait pas eu de chagrin d’amour, il n’aurait jamais envie de passer à l’acte en créant Facebook et aurait peut-être simplement mené une simple (!) vie de manager issu d’Harvard.

Ce syndrome appelé parfois « EHS » (« Excess Hapiness Syndrome ») ne force pas les talents et notamment votre bon génie (nous sommes tous des génies, chacun dans notre domaine) à se révéler : pourquoi se démener à bouger puisque tout va bien ?

Ce phénomène s’applique aussi bien dans le business que dans les arts ou...la vie privée : pourquoi faire des efforts vis-à-vis de ses proches puisque tout semble aller bien ?

Cette théorie qui valorise la douleur et les misères de la vie remet en question certaines façons de travailler :

Un employeur a alors intérêt à recruter plutôt des personnes ayant connu des difficultés, puisqu’elles semblent plus motivées pour y arriver.
Les candidats, de leur côté, ne doivent plus seulement parler de leurs défauts, mais aussi de leurs souffrances.
Etc.

Toutefois, si vous n’avez pas connu de telles infortunes et / ou si vous offrez de bonnes conditions de vie à votre entourage, ne cherchez pas à gaspiller votre argent, à quitter votre conjoint ou à tout brûler pour y parvenir. La situation n’est pas totalement désespérée : le fait d’avoir vécu dans de bonnes conditions tant financières que sentimentales et mentales vous donne un capital de confiance en vous qui a beaucoup de valeur aussi et vous permet de relativiser les désagréments de la vie professionnelle (ou privée).
